Do you have that personality trait that makes a leader a great one?
Ever heard of Mental Toughness (MT)?
It’s a measure of individual resilience and confidence that may predict success in sport, education and the workplace.
Basically, it says that you will be successful if you keep working hard and remain positive no matter the pressure and challenges are.
So how do you know if you have enough MT?
You can check out the 4 components (the 4 Cs) and see how much of each you have:
- Challenge: Do you see change, adversity, variety and challenges as obstacles or opportunities or even, threats?
- Confidence: do you believe you are able to successfully get through life and achieve your goals?
- Commitment: are you able to relentlessly focus and avoid distractions to reach your goals?
- Control: do you know enough about yourself so that you take your life in your own hands and act upon what matters to you?
What do you need to improve your MT?
- Self-awareness: you must know yourself to be able to adjust or optimize what needs to change.
- Courage: it’s never easy to admit you are not where you want to be (yet). And it’s even more difficult to decide acting upon it.
- Resilience: change doesn’t happen overnight and it’s by trying and failing that you will be able to progress towards your goals.
- Grit: keep going, be tenacious and don’t give up. That will also boost your confidence in your ability to be successful.
And last, you need support!
Being mentally tough doesn’t mean being alone.
Sharing your doubts, issues, success too makes you learn better and acquire faster the skills and traits needed to grow into MT.
Coaching is what you need!
